Hi @grufo,
the new official domain for this project is popcorn-time.is

Hi everyone!

In case you are seeing this message on Popcorn Time Ce: «The video could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported»… It seems to be a common problem related to the new version of libffmpegsumo.so, which is likely that will be solved soon – see: https://github.com/PopcornTimeCommunity/desktop/issues/13

SOLUTIONS:

1. Use VLC for playing the videos from Popcorn Time CE
2. Or follow the discussion on GitHub linked above

@jevv

Thank you. I switched from binaries to source. Could you please have a look at the PKGBUILD and make a check?

This package name doesn't give a clue that it's installing the binary release (*-bin). I'm used to see a package name like this one for a package that builds the tarball release, which is available on the same github releases page.

That said, the conflict I asked about is not necessary. My mistake. The other package I mentioned renames things so there's no conflict.

BTW, this one is *.ag, while the other one is *.ch. I didn't know the community was split... That's part of why there's no conflict...

jevv commented on 2016-04-08 22:50

Could popcorntime-ce-git be included as a conflict (it was removed, but dor those using it, it would be easier to transition).

Also, if changing the name to *-bin, could the non *-bin be added as a conflict as well?

jevv commented on 2016-04-08 22:47

Can the package be renamed as popcorntime-ce-bin?

I see the github repo offers the sources for the current release:

https://github.com/PopcornTimeCommunity/desktop/archive/v0.4.0-2.tar.gz

And there are instructions to build it:

npm install
gulp build

So popcorntime-ce should refer to the released build, and not the released binary.

You have to do your own research and choose for yourself. One difference is that popcorntime.ag is running a smear capaign against popcorntime.sh which they are spamming everywhere. ;)

@wolfanger

http://heavy.com/tech/2016/02/popcorntime-sh-real-fake-owner-popcorn-time-versions-domains-ag-se-trustworthy-mpaa-what-is-difference/

“The moderator noted that PopcornTime.sh uses four nameservers (ptn.sh, ptn.re, ptn.wf, and ptm.pm) that are controlled by the MPAA.”

One other thing to be remembered is that THERE IS NOT AN OFFICIAL UPDATED VERSION OF THE OLD POPCORN-TIME. They are all FORKS, simply because the original programmers are gone.

I am not understanding. Which source is sure and clean ? .ag ? .sh? Every hosting domain says the other one is not to be trusted.
